Most EVE Online in-game mechanics are all player-driven from the Economy being an open market, which is mainly driven by players to combat, and even skill training capabilities are based on real-world time rather than being based on in-game time. As such, one can physically feel how much their actions hold results in the real world say you want to travel to a galaxy a few nodes out. Great now you have to wait for a few hours depending on how many intergalactic nodes along with needing to restock on your fuel else there is potential to run out of gas at the most crucial time, here we can see how even minimal tasks like movement take time and also effort.
