TeamBuilder
Team Builder is a rather old concept in league itself to the point it has become a very crucial part of the league of legends gameplay; it goes by the name of Draft pick nowadays. I bet you’ve heard of what drafting. Generally, it applies to the video game industry too. It’s the act of assigning a player an area or a group that they are now held responsible for. The core ideas were simple but revolutionary for its time as in the ye olden years of league it used to be a chaotic mess. People would often jump lanes taking whatever match up was beneficial to itself.
As such, Team Builder was Riot’s first attempt at trying to fix this issue and let people declare what kind of champion they would play. Sure, at the time, it was a great idea but as people started playing this new mode, they realized that the waiting times have significantly gone up and even if they got into a team not owned by them, they had the high chance of being kicked simply on a whim. The idea was solid but the execution could’ve been worked on as at the time the captain had the powers to kick players they didn’t want to deal with but that wasn’t the only issue. One of the biggest problems with this system was that some roles were more favorable to players than others; primarily, the support role was often seen as a joke.
They weren’t as helpful as the many other champions who honestly had a lot more, and they could offer from themselves to the team. Along with the timers for support, players were some of the most horrendous timers as they could last up to 1 hour, if not worse. As such the community called out to the creators with a collective voice, which forced Riot to come up with the draft system that we have now. Now the roles are classified into the lane they went in and although it had a rocky start nowadays, it has become one of the most depended upon systems incorporated in the many MOBA games out there.
