Legion Invasions
The players were given many choices regarding dealing with the invasion. They could ignore it, thus allowing the legion to occupy that location unless the players retook it permanently, and if they helped fight back the attack, they were able to get unique cosmetics and achievements for succeeding. These invasions were level based going from level 10 till level 100 invasions.
The invasions themselves featured the arrival of Legion forces, with each invasion split into three stages. To defeat the invasion, players were required to battle the ground troops, destroy Legion structures and defeat several elite commanders, fighting back the Legion's advances, while legion ships rained felfire from above. For the duration of this event, NPCs were neutral to the players and helped fight back the invasions alongside them.
The unique thing about this event was that the players didn’t necessarily need to stop the invasion. While the attacks were happening, there was a small chance that players from both factions can hear the dark whispers of the Legion and can decide to switch sides. This causes them to gain five new abilities, which would set up to them becoming a boss character called a dread lord, which they could control for one whole minute before being killed.
Here’s a video showing how this went down in the player's perspective:
Eventually, all this led into becoming part of the official Legion quest update where we now have to root out the source of the Legion and their presence from the world of Azeroth itself. As such the world itself starts to shape around the actions that the players took in this event, which an interesting idea to implement.
