Save the Manatees Charity
May 2012 Riot Games announced a cute new mammalian champion called Urf the manatee. Everything about his character had the telltale sags that this new little friend would potentially become a playable champion for the players of League. Yet on the 1st April, we all received a piece of sad news, the little champion would never come to be as a powerful evil foe slew him. To help honor our little mammalian friend, Riot created a cosmetic skin to show that even though our mammalian friend died in battle, he still lives on in our hearts.
Even though it was supposed to be an April Fool’s joke, more than 15,000 people already bought the skin on April 1st. Many Concerned comments flooded Leagues private and Reddit forums regarding Urf’s condition. As per a fan-based contest held by Riot Games, more than 74 videos, 398 poems, 130 pieces of artwork, and more than 150 other forms of media of custom-made cartoon, handwritten short stories, and even custom-made flash-based computer games were given to Riot on behalf of their fans and Urf’s well-wishers.
Because of the sheer amount of support that was shown by players and the creators own believes in the matters of wildlife preservation. Riot Games decided to forward all sales that this skin made towards the Save the Manatee Club to help protect other manatees from becoming like our friend Urf.
