Com325-001:Implementation of Video Games

Creativity

If literary fiction can provide more opportunities to enhance creativity using video games then more users will experience creativity. Video games which fall in the genres of strategic, open-world, and adventure provide for more development in creativity. According to “Human Motivation, 3rd ed.”, creativity is defined as the “ tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others” (Franken 396). With this definition of creativity, various researches have been conducted to find the relation between creativity and video games. One research study found that video games that specifically provide opportunities for creative thought and expression can provide beneficial creativity effects(Blanco-Herrera, Jorge A., et al). Likewise, another study found that using fantasy to provoke curiosity, allows the learner choice and control, and provides opportunities for creativity(Mitchell 51).These studies have shown that genres of video games that provide users with choice in their interactive environment will benefit the skill of creativity.

If literary fiction can utilise video games which provide users with tools and worlds to demonstrate their creativity then it will enhance the story experience. For example, if a passage within a story describes a character or certain locations in the story, then users should be able to load into the game world which displays this world for players to interact with. In other words, users will read a chapter in the story, then when they will click or select on an icon, they will be playing the video game which pertains to that part of the story. In this topic, I will use Minecraft Classic to demonstrate how I intend to create a short story and have the user click the “Enter World” icon to then load into the Minecraft world to complete the story or just interact.
